You've Got Mail (1998)

Catch Dave Chappelle as Kevin Jackson

Theatrical Release Date: December 18, 1998

Summary: Remember when AOL and email were so fresh and on the cutting edge of the internet computer world? Me either but the people over at Warner Bros. thought it wold make a romatic comedy about people who hate each other in real life, yet fall in love via email. LOL. Review:

Another Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan romantic comedy? It's not groundhog day, more like Sleepless in Seattle 2. It's a chick flick with obvious romatic overtones. The main problem with this movie is that it dates itself. When this first came out everyone thought "hey how cute, 'you've got mail', I get mail too when I sign on. maybe I can fall in love with Tom Hanks too." Well sorry but because the writer's used such a cheesey gimic such as email to lure the main characters together, the movie is weak because AOL is already on like version 9.0. Now internet dating is creepy with alot of red flags going up around it. Back then it was a naive idea. Dave does show his more serious side playing Tom Hanks' best friend, a role that is a welcomed change of pace for him, showing off his complete skills as an actor.
